Genuine Native American Ceremonial Drum circa 1880 in Los Angeles, California For Sale

This drum is large, at 33" to 36" across, double-sided, very primitive and well-aged. The drum is carved and hollowed-out bottom portion of a tree trunk including where the roots flare outward and down into the ground with tanned rawhide, elkskin or buckskin stretched taut across the top and bottom with sinew or hide thongs. The drum is unpainted. It is attributed to one of the tribes considered The Plains Indians extending across the American Midwest into Canada and obviously has been used in a great many ceremonies over the years. This drum dates to the late 19th century, and in relatively good condition. Large PowWow drums such as this in its primitive state are rare . This drum is of the type where many men sat around, instead of an individual. To many Native American tribes, the Native drum contains thunder and lightning and when it is beaten, it helps to get the creator's attention and it also helps contact the spirits of the Native American forefathers.
