This elegant book/display case was custom designed and handcrafted to hold my collection of eclectic and rare art books. The bookcase is as new.
Its dimensions are: 7'H x 4'W x 1'D. There are four glass doors. They measure as follows: the two glass doors on top are 4' x 2', the two bottom glass doors are 2' x 2'. There are ten shelves, which can all be adjusted to one's desired heigth. The shelves, themselves, are a true! full! one inch thick. They will not buckle under heavy weight, crucial to holding heavy, rare or other book collections or heavy collectible items.
I found this design to be much more adaptable and easier to use than the barrister style. The book/display case is made of solid pine boards (no particleboard). It is extremely solid, well-built and heavy, very much in the tradition of hand made wood furniture. It is stained sugar maple, with multiple layers of protective coatings. The lines, design, of the bookcase, are simple. Both the lines and warmth and color of the wood, make it compatible with numerous decors. It literally holds volumes, yet never appears bulky or overwhelming.
