Whether your music career interests lie in music education, performance, manufacturing, or any number of other jobs, the field provides countless opportunities for finding a fulfilling and rewarding music career. You might be surprised at the variety of ways in which you can put your training and skills to work!
Panelists
Kevin Cloud
Over the past three decades, Kevin Cloud has worked in the music industry in a variety of capacities including songwriter, sideman, producer, and founder of KMC Music Productions.
He was a member of the house bands on the Howie Mandel Show (ABC), the Byron Allen Show (ABC), The Arthel & Fred Show (syndicated), and The Late Show (Fox). During these stints, Cloud played behind legendary artists Dolly Parton, Jo Dee Messina, Patti LaBelle, James Ingram, Joe Walsh and Little Richard. In addition, Cloud has performed with Al Jarreau, Next, Jeffrey Osborne, Dave Koz, Bobby Womack, The Rascals, Eartha Kitt, Chuck Negron (Three Dog Night), Gladys Knight, Lee Greenwood, Gerald Albright, and more.
In the early 90’s Cloud was a member of the pop band Ryhthm Syndicate, which scored the top 2 hit P.A.S.S.I.O.N., which was also a top 5 hit on MTV.
In xxxx he signed top five hit R&B singer Javier to Capitol Records, and served as executive producer on both of the singers Capitol releases, as well as co-writing and producing several tracks.
In xxxx Cloud opened Hubbadaddy’s Studios. Hubbadaddy’s is currently Santa Clarita valleys only professional rehearsal studio.
Dr. KC Manji
K.C. began her music studies in high school as a jazz bass player and has enjoyed an eclectic career touring with the Woody Herman band, Carol Kaye, the Art Pepper Trio, and drummers Louis Bellson and Joe Morello.
She spent four years serving as Kent Nagano's assistant conductor with the Berkeley Symphony and the Oakland Symphony Orchestra Association. K.C. spent a term at the Los Angeles Philharmonic studying with Maestro Leonard Bernstein, Michael Tilson Thomas, and John Williams.
She also studied extensively with San Francisco Ballet Music Director Denis De Coteau and Peter Eros, former director of the Alborg Symphony in Australia. During her tenure as the Music Director of the Sinfonia Concertante Orchestra of Manhattan, she worked with Pulitzer Prize winning composer Ellen Taffe Zwilich, and renowned music educator, conductor, author and composer Gunther Schuller. She continues to travel as a guest conductor for film, television, commercials, festival adjudicator, and clinician.
Eric Schmidt
Eric has composed, orchestrated, and conducted the music for over 300 episodes of animated series produced by Disney and Warner Bros. His work has been featured in over two dozen motion pictures (Tom & Jerry and The Magic Ring, Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas, Lakeboat, Beethoven III, The Perfect Storm, A Kid in King Arthur’s Court, Mighty Ducks II, Ground Zero, Employee Of The Month, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Just My Luck and Little Man), almost thirty commercials, and six theme park shows.
Recently, Eric has worked on the music for the award winning SONY PLAY STATION video game series Uncharted. For several years he conducted and orchestrated for pianist John Tesh.
His concert repertoire includes numerous compositions for concert band, a
ballet, one symphony, two works for choir, 32 solo piano pieces,16 songs for children's choir and several chamber works. He has been published by Alfred Publishing, Abingdon Press and National Music Publishers.
Eric has received two Grammy nominations, three Emmy nominations, and two Golden Reel Award nominations.
For the past five years Eric has taught composition and conducting at
the USC Thornton School of Music Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television program. For the past two years he has been ARTS COMMISSIONER for the City of Santa Clarita.
He is a member of The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences,
The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, The Society of
Composers and Lyricists, the Recording Musicians Association and the
American Federation of Musicians.
J.C. Dwyer
J.C. Dwyer is the CCO, Executive Producer and co-founder of Megatrax, which is a leader in the music library industry. Dwyer has composed and produced many of Megatrax’ most popular titles resulting in thousands of memorable film and television music placements. He continues to shape the company with his creative contributions to the music and in many supporting departments including research and development as well as marketing and sales.
After earning a BA in music from Berkley School of Music and a Masters Degree in Music at USC, J.C. began his professional music career in NBC’s music department. As Music Supervisor for NBC Music, JC helped select music for shows, promos and movies which helped lead to the creation of Megatrax. At Megatrax, J.C. and Ron together have developed some of the most recognizable and longest running TV campaigns including NBC’s “Must See TV” and FOX TV’s “30 Seconds to Fame.” He has been a member of Promax since xxxx, a member of The Society of Composers and Lyricists since xxxx and is a long standing member of many other organizations including PMA, NARIP, AIMP and ASCAP.
