It's no surprise how Chris McCarthy manages to stay busy as a freelance musician in Southern California. His work ethic as a cellist, electric bassist, educator, teacher, and studio musician has earned him respect among his colleagues.
As a performer, Chris maintains a healthy balance of classical and non-classical music. He is Assistant Principal Cellist of the Dana Point Symphony and Principal Cellist of Symphony Irvine, and has performed with the Montage Civic Orchestra, Orange Coast College Orchestra, Irvine Valley College Orchestra, and Crystal Cathedral Hour of Power Orchestra. Chris is cellist of the Belmont String Quartet and co-founded a cello quartet, Love4Cello. Chris has also recorded on soundtracks for numerous student films, most notably as solo cellist for Mitsuyo Miyazaki's Tsuyako. Chris is also an active musician with the singer/songwriter scene in Orange County, having recorded for such artists as Molly Bryant, Danny Maika, and Hannah & Maggie.
As an educator, Chris maintains a busy private studio with students throughout Orange County. He is bass coach for Fountain Valley High School's string orchestra, and cello coach for Santa Margarita Catholic High School's string orchestra and the South Coast Youth Symphony Orchestra in Mission Viejo, which toured the United Kingdom (xxxx) and Spain (xxxx).
Chris graduated from The Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at CSU Long Beach with his Bachelor of Music, Instrumental Music and is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He is currently preparing the third year of a chamber music recital in affiliation with the Fred Peters "Freesax" Foundation for Music Education, a non-profit organization that offers scholarships to his alma mater music programs, the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music and Arrowbear Music Camp. Chris currently studies with Joon-Sung Jun.
