AUTOMATION ENGINEER
A growth-focused, profitable, and non-automotive, manufacturer in the Downtown Los Angeles (Commerce / Vernon) area is looking for an Engineer to automate their assembly-intense projects. They have projects stacked up and are excited to get this new role filled. In this role, you will design the automation, specify the components, and work closely with the assembly and implementation of the projects in the plant. In some cases you may build the equipment yourself with the assistance of the internal tool shop/maintenance department and in other cases, you might contract the work to outside vendors.
Automation Engineer Primary Duties:
Design, specify, build, subcontract, and implement safe, reliable, ergonomic systems and machines for all engineered automation projects.
The automation engineer writes detailed technical specifications for PLC interface and automation on equipment.
The automation engineer develops and maintains cost effective specifications and standards for machine controls and programming.
The automation engineer coordinates all project controls/electrical/automation activities to ensure that project timing, quality, and cost targets are attained.
The automation engineer supervises and/or direct contractors, suppliers, or other technical people as required.
The automation engineer performs hands-on programming/debug/troubleshooting of numerous types of automation equipment, PLC’s and electronics.
The automation engineer provides cost estimates, schedules, or other information to management to support new project planning/quoting.
The automation engineer directs all electrical aspects of new projects including design, wiring, programming, installation, startup, debug, optimization, and documentation; in our plant and at the customer plant.
The automation engineer conducts equipment training for our personnel and customer personnel as required, including the creation of succinct manuals on a case-by-case basis.
Act at times as overall project manager on highly automated/high controls-content projects.
Ensure equipment and layouts are compliant with local and national electrical codes.
Qualifications for Automation Engineer:
BS in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or similar strongly preferred. Will consider non-degreed with 7+ years of on-target experience.
2 years experience in a complex automation/electrical role designing appropriate PLC/HMI solutions for machinery & equipment.
Experience in Plastics Manufacturing (Extrusion, Injection Molding, Blow Molding) preferred but not required.
Ability to design schematics on CAD.
Solid project management skills.
